description

A 24-hour period of severe weather has passed through our region, featuring strong winds with gusts exceeding 100 km/h, significant rainfall accumulations reaching 100 to 120 mm in the Judean Mountains and the Lowlands, and nearing 150 mm in the Kiryat Malachi area. Heavy snowfall was recorded on Mount Hermon, alongside light snow in the northern Golan Heights. The precipitation generated strong streamflows, localized flooding in communities and on roads—some of which were closed to traffic—and even caused the Beit Zayit Dam to overflow its banks.

It should be noted that this is the second precipitation system within three days to be characterized by wind gusts of approximately 100 km/h or higher. In this system, similarly to previous systems during the current season, the focal point of the rainfall was situated in the Lowlands and Judean Mountains region; consequently, accumulated rainfall in these areas since the beginning of the season is significantly above average. In the northeastern part of the country, a relatively less rainy area this season, the gaps have narrowed; however, a deficit in precipitation amounts relative to the average still persists.
