description

March was colder and wetter than average, and in the southern region of the country, it ranked as one of the wettest Marches since records began. Precipitation in March was largely concentrated in the second half of the month, whereas the first half was relatively dry. In the south of the country, monthly precipitation totals reached two to three times the monthly average and occasionally higher, rendering it one of the wettest Marches on record, and at several stations, the absolute wettest. In the northern and eastern parts of the country as well, March was significantly wetter than average, with totals reaching 1.5 to 2 times the average or more.

Following the March rainfall, the accumulated precipitation deficit from the beginning of the season in the north of the country was reduced, although not completely eliminated. In the northern Golan Heights and the Galilee Panhandle, precipitation totals reached 90% to 95% of the average for the corresponding period through the end of March (85% to 90% of the full seasonal average). In most parts of the Galilee, totals reached 80% to 85% of the corresponding period's average (75% to 80% of the full seasonal average). A deficit also persists in the northern valleys, as well as in the central Coastal Plain. Conversely, in the more southern regions of the country (the Judean Mountains and southward), accumulated precipitation totals since the beginning of the season exceed the multi-year average for the entire season, reaching approximately 110% to 130%. In the northern Negev, the Dead Sea region, and the Arava, amounts even reached 1.5 to 2 times the average or more.

March was colder than average, diverging from the three preceding winter months, which were warmer than average. It was even colder than February, a rare condition that occurs approximately once every 10 to 15 years on average.

The coolness of March was particularly pronounced during the first part of the month, which was anomalously cold and almost entirely devoid of precipitation. In contrast, the middle of the month was warmer than average, featuring days with mild Sharav (hot and dry) conditions. The latter part of the month was once again colder than average; however, unlike the beginning of the month, it was also accompanied by precipitation.
