description

Overall, April was slightly cooler than average, following a March that was
below average. This marks the second consecutive month with below-average
temperatures, a situation that is uncommon in this warm era.

In terms of precipitation, April was characterized by high spatial variability.
Rainfall amounts were generally below average in the north and center of the
country, while the eastern and southern regions experienced wetter-than-average
conditions, including three flash flood events in this area during the month.
These events add to similar episodes that have occurred so far in the current
rainy season, such that the 2025/26 season is characterized by an exceptionally
large and unusual number of heavy rainfall and flash flood events in the south
of the country. In parts of the Negev and the Arava, this ranks as one of the
wettest years since records began, with cumulative totals reaching 1.5 to 2
times the annual average.

The Gaza Envelope, parts of the central hills, and the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee)
area were also wetter than average; however, in the north of the country and the
central Coastal Plain, cumulative rainfall totals were below average. In the
Galilee and the Golan, approximately 80% to 95% of the annual average
accumulated, and in the central Coastal Plain, about 75% to 85% of the average.

April was cooler than average during daytime hours and close to average during
nighttime hours. The first half of April was cooler than average, following the
latter part of March, which was also cool, resulting in a period of nearly a
month that was colder than normal. The second half of April was warmer, marked
by prominent Sharav events in the middle of the month and another event at its
end; however, cool spells also occurred during this period.
