May was warmer than average throughout the country and rainy, mostly in its northren parts.

During the month, a prolonged and a heavy heat spell prevailed ,. It was exceptional for its length and intensity, so that, despite the fact that a large part of the days of the month were closer to average or even cool, May, in total, was hotter than average.

In the north of the country, the rainfall amounts during May were substantial and significantly higher than average. In the centre and the south, the amounts were slightly larger than average. This was the final chord for the rain season of 2019/20, which was much rainier than average, in a similar fashion to the previous season.
